Will online dating chat room sluts help my depressed friend?
with his depressionand anxiety and low self esteem problems? He is 17 and only has online friends and gf's. There is a girl in the chat room he spends his whole day in who he has internet dated before. They broke up about 6 weeks ago but she has made it clear she wants him back. Everyone in the chat thinks she's a slut and she has a rep for internet dating with someone different every few months. She cybers and talks like a tramp as well. Will it help my friend to take her back? He has little confidence and so much anxiety that he isolates himself and has no real life friends. He won't even talk on the phone to any of his online friends or gf's. Will this help him? Or will it only make things worse? Thanks

Why are people eliminating face to face social contact in new ways?
Let me list the ways in which humans are beginning to eliminate social interaction;
Cell phones/Blackberrys
Online dating/Chat rooms
Working from home
Online Church
Online University
Online bill payments
Conference calls
Are you of the opinion that these are all suitable subsitutes for social contact, or not?

Does this all sound right(Friend-zone)?
Okay so I decided to do a little digging on this "friend zone" I keep hearing about. I don't know how accurate the information is but out of all that I read this seems to be the most consistent themes. Sooo here we go!
Reasons why girls put guys in the friend zone:
-They aren't interested in the guy as far as dating but they do still enjoy spending time with him.
-They are with another guy at the time(obvious one)
-They have all the emotional benefits of the guy as far as a shoulder to cry on, someone to provide emotional support, someone to pay for stuff at the movies and when they go out, and someone to talk to without getting physically intimate.
-They are afraid of losing their friend and they don't want things to get awkward if the two of them broke up. They want to still be able to hang out with the person even when times get tough.
-They think of the person in sort of a little brother way and dating them just seems a bit weird.
-Since they know the guy so well, it takes away from the mystery and excitement of a new person. You know them so well that you feel there is no surprise to them. They become your comfort zone.
Why Guys hate the "dreaded" friend zone:
-No sex(I'm not here to bs people, I'm human too. so yeah that's the first)
-You are then painfully aware of the fact that no matter what you do, you are viewed as someone who i not dating material...or more precisely "You're a great guy and an ideal boyfriend...for someone else" which sounds nice until you consider just how many girls you'd want to date think you'd be good for someone else.
- You sit there and watch her give total strangers a chance that you'll never get. Sure in some aspects you're closer to her than they are(for the moment) but they can get the chance that you'll never have. And the girl will sit there and tell you all about how that guy is getting what you don't have a chance at.
-You want to be with her and it is sort of hurts just going day by day knowing you can't be with her. But if you decide to brach off and leave on to a girl that would give you a chance, then comes the ex-post facto justification that "see? I was right not to give him a chance because all he wanted was the physical/sexual/romance." Not realizing that it's not always about having one or the other for the guy(sometimes it is but sometimes it isn't).In fact, a lot of times it's about being able to have both.
-You watch someone you care about go through a bunch of guys that may not be good for her. and all the while thinking about what you could give her that they refuse to.
Sooo yeah. this is the result of about an hour an a half of reading articles and browsing online dating chat rooms. Anybody have any thoughts?
