As men, we can often land in hot water very quickly if we become confused or misunderstood by women. We tend to look to other men for relationship advice, however much of the information we come across is written by women for other women. 1. The alarm bells should be ringing if your woman is giving you the silent treatment. Men usually remain silent because they have nothing left to say, but for a woman, silence usually means that something is amiss. Whilst you may be enjoying the break in verbal turmoil, women may use the silent treatment as punishment. So if you suspect you have become a victim of the cold shoulder, try to recall the point at which she switched off and determine the actions that may have led to her becoming upset.

2. Do not automatically assume that PMT is the cause of her mood changes. Women tend to react more strongly when they are upset and have been hurt and it does not have anything to do with when their period is due. Constantly blaming PMT will more than likely increase or prolong her dark mood and you may well find yourself back at number 1.

3. When women say they want to talk about their problems it this doesn't necessarily mean that they want you to actually do anything. Women are capable of looking after themselves and they may just want to get something off their chest. There is a reason we have two ears and only one mouth! Merely listening with interest to what your partner is saying goes a long way. You may think that you have the solution to her problems, but it is best to remain silent and let her ask you for help before you jump the gun.

4. Men can often look in the wrong places when it comes to relationship advice. Asking your father in law if he knows what her problem is probably isn't the best way to go. Not only is it possible for him to become suspicious that you may be the cause, he may also be understandably biased and protective of his daughter. Choose the people you divulge this sensitive information with wisely, and be discreet.

5. Remembering that your female partner probably wont forget anything you did wrong in the last six months might help. Your woman and an elephant have something in common - their memory. Don't be surprised if she has a list a mile long of all these things. Try not to give her a reason to add to it.

6. Try being the one to initiate talking. Tell her how much you love and appreciate her. Kiss and cuddle her without sexual innuendo. Showing her that you can be caring and affectionate without expecting something in return will make her feel loved and respected.

7. Speak to your partner if something is worrying you. Two heads are often better than one when problem solving. She may be female, but her support and resourcefulness surprise you. Additionally, if she knows what is playing on your mind she is less likely to jump to conclusions of affairs or breaking up etc.

Life time partnerships do require effort from both parties. But if you choose the right resources and try to follow sensible advice, you will begin to have an enjoyable and fulfilling relationship.
